This Bloodstone Elephant is a 2" hand-carved figurine cut from natural bloodstone (heliotrope), traditionally associated with courage, vitality, and grounding. Bloodstone is a variety of chalcedony quartz, and this piece shows the stone's classic dark green base flecked with red-to-orange spots of iron oxide — the "blood" that gives the stone its name. Because each piece is cut from natural rough, the density and placement of the red flecking will vary slightly. The elephant form adds its own symbolism of strength, wisdom, and protection.

Meaning & history

Bloodstone has a long folk history as a stone of courage and vitality, and its deep green color has made it a traditional companion to the root chakra in modern crystal practice. As a quartz-family mineral it shares the same silicate structure as clear quartz and other chalcedony varieties, just colored by trace iron. Paired with the elephant — a widely recognized symbol of strength, memory, and steady resolve — this piece is often chosen as a grounding desk or altar companion.

How to display it

Place this figurine somewhere you'll see it daily — a desk, entryway shelf, or altar are all common spots. Some people keep bloodstone near the door as a grounding "threshold" piece, or group it with other root-chakra stones from the bloodstone or crystals collections. Handle it like any carved stone ornament — keep it away from shelf edges to avoid chips.

Care & cleansing

Bloodstone is a durable quartz-family stone and generally tolerates a quick rinse under lukewarm water, but avoid harsh chemical cleaners, prolonged soaking, and ultrasonic cleaners, which can dull the polish over time. To cleanse it in the traditional sense many practitioners describe, wipe with a soft cloth, rest it briefly near (not in) burning sage or palo santo, or set it out under indirect moonlight.

Frequently asked questions

What is this piece?
It's a 2 inch hand-carved elephant figurine cut from natural bloodstone, a dark green chalcedony quartz with red iron-oxide flecking. This is a decorative/symbolic piece, not a health product or medical device.

Is bloodstone water-safe?
A brief rinse is fine, but avoid prolonged soaking, salt water, or harsh chemical cleaners, which can dull the natural polish over time.

Is it safe for daily display or sunlight?
Yes — bloodstone is a hard, stable quartz-family mineral and holds up well to normal daily display, including moderate light exposure.

How do I cleanse and charge it?
A soft dry cloth wipe, a few minutes near (not through) sage or palo santo smoke, or an overnight rest under indirect moonlight are common traditional practices. None of these are scientifically verified processes.

How can I tell it's real bloodstone?
Genuine bloodstone has a smooth, slightly waxy chalcedony luster, a deep opaque green base, and red or orange flecks that look like natural mineral inclusions rather than uniform printed dots.

What pairs well with a bloodstone elephant?
It's commonly displayed with other grounding stones from our bloodstone or root chakra collections, or alongside other carvings in the elephant collection.
