How it's used
A singing bowl produces sound through simple physics: striking the rim with the mallet delivers a sharp impact that sets the metal vibrating, producing a single clear tone, while circling the mallet slowly and steadily around the outer rim creates continuous friction that sustains a rolling, singing note for as long as the motion continues. Both techniques work on the same bowl — striking for a quick, resonant chime, and rimming for a longer, building tone. In many traditions, singing bowls are used to open or close a meditation session, mark the passage of time, or serve as a focal point during sound-based practice, and this 6-inch size is a versatile everyday option for that kind of use. It's a favorite in our Tibetan singing bowls and sound collections, and it pairs well with pieces for balance and wellness — or simply as a beautiful accent for the home. Pair it with our Tibetan Singing Bowl (5") for two complementary tones.
Care & handling
Wipe the bowl with a soft, dry cloth after each use to remove fingerprints and oils, and store it away from moisture to help prevent tarnishing. Handle it gently and avoid stacking heavy objects on or inside it, since a dented rim can change its tone. Each bowl is hand-forged, so tone, finish, and small surface marks vary from bowl to bowl and are part of the handmade process rather than a defect.
Frequently asked questions
What is a chakra singing bowl used for?
It's a metal bowl played by striking or rimming it with a mallet, traditionally used in chakra-focused meditation and sound practice.
How do I play this singing bowl?
Strike the rim gently with the mallet for a single clear tone produced by the impact, or circle the mallet slowly and steadily around the rim to build a sustained singing sound produced by friction. Both are normal ways to play the same bowl.
Does the bowl come with a mallet, and is it a medical device?
Yes, a wooden mallet is included for both striking and rimming. The bowl is a decorative and ritual sound tool for meditation and relaxation practices, not a medical device or health treatment.
How should I clean and store it, and will mine match the photo exactly?
Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth after use and store it away from moisture. Each bowl is handmade, so tone, finish, and design details vary slightly from bowl to bowl — yours will be one of a kind.
