Style

This ring wraps a slim gold-plated wire around a polished, dome-cut (cabochon) larimar stone, leaving the setting open and adjustable rather than a fixed band. Larimar is found only in the Dominican Republic, and its color ranges from milky white through soft sky blue to deeper turquoise, patterned the way ocean water and clouds are. Because the wire wrap is adjustable, one ring fits a range of finger sizes.

Quick Facts

  • Stone: Larimar, natural cabochon cut
  • Form/Setting: Gold-plated wire wrap setting
  • Mohs hardness: 4.5–5 (soft — see Care below)
  • Origin: Dominican Republic (the only known source of larimar)
  • Size/Fit: Adjustable wire band, fits a range of finger sizes
  • Variation note: Blue-and-white patterning is unique to each stone

In Crystal Tradition

Larimar's ocean-blue patterning has earned it the nickname "Atlantis stone," and in crystal tradition it's associated with calm and a sense of connection to the sea. Many people wear it as a grounding, tranquil everyday stone.

How to Wear / How to Use

Gently adjust the open wire band to fit your finger, resizing slowly by hand rather than forcing it. Because larimar is soft and water-sensitive, treat this as a piece you put on last and take off first — after lotion and perfume, and before washing your hands, showering, or swimming.

Care

Larimar is soft (4.5–5 Mohs) and water-sensitive — never soak it, rinse it, or clean it with water or an ultrasonic cleaner. Dry-clean only: wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Adjust the wire band sparingly, since repeated resizing can fatigue thin wire, and avoid pressing directly on the stone while adjusting. The gold plating is a thin surface layer, not solid gold — keep it away from moisture as well to help it last.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I resize this ring without damaging the stone?

A: Adjust the open wire band by hand at the back of the ring, away from the stone itself, and go slowly — avoid pressing on or twisting near the larimar cabochon.

Q: Can I wear this ring in the shower or while washing dishes?

A: No. Larimar is soft and water-sensitive, so we recommend removing it before any water exposure.

Q: Is larimar really only found in the Dominican Republic?

A: Yes — it's the only known commercial source of larimar in the world, which is part of why it's considered rare.

Q: Will larimar scratch easily as a ring stone?

A: At 4.5–5 Mohs it's softer than many ring stones, so it's more prone to scratching than quartz or harder gems — gentle handling and storing it separately from other jewelry helps.
