Size

This Malachite Duck Figurine is a small, polished animal carving in deep green, banded malachite. The duck form is a classic subject for stone carvers, and the swirling malachite pattern gives each bird a slightly different marking across its body. Because the material is natural, no two ducks show identical banding.

About

Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral, and its rich green, swirling bands form as copper deposits are laid down in bands over time — the same copper chemistry that gives the stone its color also makes it a soft, reactive material to work with. Carvers favor malachite for small animal figures like this duck because the banding follows the curves of the shape in a way that flat-cut stones can't replicate. At only 3.5-4 on the Mohs hardness scale, malachite is considerably softer than most display stones and scratches easily, so it's best kept as a look-but-don't-handle-roughly piece. It's one of six pieces in our malachite figurine set, alongside the Cat, Frog, Turtle, Skull, and Pyramid. How to use it

Keep this duck as a stand-alone display piece on a shelf, desk, or cabinet where it won't be bumped or handled often — malachite's softness means it marks and scratches more easily than harder stones like quartz. It also makes a distinctive small gift for someone who collects animal figurines or green stone pieces specifically. Set it somewhere stable, away from edges where it could fall.

Care

Malachite is water- and acid-sensitive: never place this figurine in water, never use it for elixirs or gem water, and never expose it to acidic cleaners or an ultrasonic cleaner — any of these can dull the polish or release copper from the stone. Dust it dry only, using a soft cloth. Wash your hands after handling, especially if the piece is chipped or raw at any edge, and never grind, cut, or sand it to avoid creating dust. Keep it out of reach of small children and pets who might mouth or chew it.

Frequently asked questions

Is malachite toxic?
Malachite is a copper mineral. It's safe to display and handle normally, but never place it in water, never make elixirs or gem water with it, avoid acidic cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners, and wash your hands after handling, especially if a piece is chipped.

Why does malachite need special care compared to other stones?
At 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale, malachite is much softer than typical display quartz or jasper, and both water and acid can damage its polish or release copper, so it needs different handling than harder stones.

Can I clean it with a damp cloth?
No. Use only a dry, soft cloth. Water and cleaning solutions can damage malachite's surface.

Will my duck look exactly like the one described?
No. Malachite's banding is entirely natural, so the exact pattern, shade, and marking on each duck varies.

Is this a health product?
No. This is a decorative accessory, not a health product. Any traditional associations noted are cultural attribution, not medical claims.

Is malachite natural or man-made?
Natural. It is a genuine copper carbonate hydroxide mineral, carved and polished into this figurine shape.
