Working with Energy
As the crystal world continues to evolve, we are learning more each day about what working with energy really means. With the help of quantum physics, we are learning at a rapid speed how energy moves and transfers. In physics, energy is the quantitative property transferred to a body or system, recognizable in the performance of work and in the form of heat and light — a conserved quantity that can change form but is never created or destroyed. As we continue to explore this, many people find it useful to tune into their own sense of self, moving past old programming and past experiences that no longer serve them. That journey isn't always simple, and there is no need for panic along the way — there is always a path forward, and crystals are one tool among several that can support it.
Tools for the Journey: Crystals, Meditation, Sound & Plant Medicine
Some of the tools commonly used throughout this journey are crystals, meditation, sound healing, and plant medicine. There are others, but we will cover those four here.
A Brief History of Crystals
Crystals have been used across many civilizations throughout history. It is commonly noted that the ancient Egyptians wore stones like Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise, Carnelian, Emerald, and clear quartz as jewelry. Crystals form when molecules gather and stabilize as liquid cools and hardens — a process called crystallization that can happen as magma hardens or as water evaporates from a natural mixture. Most crystals start very small, and over time, as more atoms join in a repeating, uniform pattern, the crystal grows.
How Crystals Support Intuition and Emotional Release
Many people use crystals to help tune in to their intuition. We are naturally intuitive, though the busyness of daily life often crowds out the flashes of insight we receive. Crystals can be a focusing tool for that inner voice. Affirmation practice is another way people work with crystal energy — pairing meditation, affirmation, and visualization with a chosen stone to help focus attention on a desired change.
Crystals are also used to support the release of emotional blockages. When we experience difficult emotions, we sometimes build a kind of protective wall that can make it harder to move forward. Working with a chosen crystal, some people find it easier to process and release those feelings. A stone like Black Tourmaline is often used to clear the energy of a space. Some also place crystals in a workspace to support focus and creative thinking.
The Role of Meditation
Meditation plays an important role in this kind of practice — it helps set intention and supports a felt connection to the present moment. Meditation is often described as sitting quietly and clearing the mind, but for most people, thoughts keep arriving anyway. That is completely normal, and it is one of the most common reasons people find meditation frustrating at first. Fortunately, clearing the mind completely is not the only way in — breathwork, mindfulness meditation, mantra, and spoken affirmations are all valid starting points.
Two Simple Meditations to Try
Meditation for calmness: Sit quietly in a comfortable position, somewhere you are unlikely to be disturbed. Hold an Amethyst crystal gently in your clasped hands, resting in your lap. Close your eyes and take 10 deep, full breaths, expanding the air into your chest and stomach. As you breathe, relax each muscle group from your head down to your feet. As you inhale, say to yourself: I inhale peace. As you exhale, say: I exhale tension and stress. Continue for 15 minutes.
Meditation for forgiveness: Sit comfortably, somewhere you are unlikely to be disturbed. Hold a Rose Quartz crystal gently in both hands, placed over the center of your chest at the heart. Close your eyes and breathe gently, simply noticing your breath. Focus on your heartbeat as you repeat: I open my heart to forgiveness. Picture the person you are working to forgive, surrounded in white light, and say: I surround you in a white light of love and release you into a positive future.
